Entrance Requirements

1. Courses accepting new students

  • Japanese Course (1 year)

2. Qualification for application

Education

One of the following:

  • 12 or more years of primary and secondary education were completed outside Japan
  • Graduation is expected before FFLC classes begin
    (for students educated in China, graduation from 普通高中, 職業高中, 中等専門学校 or higher)

Personal finances

Able to pay tuition as well as living and other expenses incurred while studying in Japan.

Age

18 years or older at the time of enrollment

Other

Mentally and physically sound (well), and committed to observing the laws of Japan as well as the rules and regulations of the College.

Japanese level

For the Japanese Course: Eagerness to learn Japanese and proficiency equivalent to JLPT N5 or better
* JLPT N5 or higher certification, or an equivalent amount of study (150 hours or more), must be attained prior to applying for a student visa to learn Japanese.

For the International Career Course, the International Hotel Department, and the Advanced Study Course: Eagerness to learn Japanese and JLPT N2 certification (required)

Other matters to note

Students planning to attend graduate school in Japan after graduating from FFLC must have completed 16 years of formal education (prior to enrolling at FFLC), graduated from a formal 4-year degree program at a university, and possess diplomas from the above.

Please note the following when applying to enter the International Career Course, the International Hotel Department, or the Advanced Study 1-year/2-year Course:

  • Basic steps of the application process do not differ from the above charts. However, these three courses commence only once each year, in April (no students are admitted for October enrollment).
  • Applications deadlines, etc. differ from those shown in the above charts:
    → End of January / Submission deadline for admission application documents
    → Mid February / Submit documents to the Regional Immigration Bureau
    → Early March / Admission results will be announced
    (JLPT N2 exam results from December of the previous year can be used)
  • JLPT N2 or higher certification is required (applicants lacking N2 certification cannot apply)

Scholarships

JASSO / Ministry of Education Honors Scholarship for Privately-Financed International Students

Summary

For International Students studying at their own expense at universities, graduate schools, vocational schools and 2-year colleges in Japan, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology offers the Honors Scholarship for Privately-Financed International Students.

Application Period

Every year from the end of March to the beginning of May

Eligibility

Students who have demonstrated 1 year of outstanding grades / marks and class attendance are eligible to apply for the scholarship. It will be awarded to successful applicants during their second year.

Application Procedure

Following an announcement and explanation session at FFLC, applications will be accepted through the College (①, ②). Follow the application instructions provided at FFLC and take the selection exam (③). The names of exceptional candidates will be forwarded to JASSO, and after the necessary procedures are complete, the scholarship funds will be distributed.

The scholarship is awarded over a period of 1 year in monthly installments of ¥48,000 (April through March of the following year)

FFLC provides scholarships to aid outstanding foreign students in their studies.
